Aromatherapy Using Aroma Diffusers

Aromatherapy is one of the oldest methods of holistic healing, equipped to rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit with the use of fragrance/ aroma.
Aromatherapy is the use of fragrances to affect or alter a person’s mood or behaviour. It is the use of fragrant essential oils extracted from plants as a treatment in complementary medicine to relieve tension and cure certain minor ailments.
Aroma Diffuser use aroma to enhance a feeling of well-being. It works as inhalants in an effort to affect mood and promote health. Essential oils that are inhaled into the lungs offer both psychological and physical benefits. Not only does the aroma of the natural essential oil stimulate the brain to trigger a reaction, but when inhaled into the lungs, the natural constituents (naturally occurring chemicals) can supply therapeutic benefit. Diffusing eucalyptus essential oil to help ease congestion is a prominent example.
  • Aerial diffusion- The oils evaporate into the air. The aim is to give the air a specific fragrance or to disinfect it.
  • Direct inhalation- The person breaths the evaporating oils straight in. This is commonly used for respiratory disinfection, de-congestion, as well as for psychological benefits.
Theory behind aromatherapy
It is believed that the inhalation of essential oils stimulates the part of the brain connected to smell the olfactory system; a signal is sent to the limbic system of the brain that controls emotions and retrieves learned memories. This causes chemicals to be released which make the person feel relaxed, calm, or even stimulated. If the aromatherapy includes massage the effect is to further relax the person.
